A single page
One well-built page covering who you are, what you do, where you work and how to get in touch. Suits a brand-new business or a sole trader with a single service.
Small Business Websites
Websites for small businesses that load quickly on a phone, say what you do in the first screen and make it easy for customers to get in touch.
A small business website should pay for itself through enquiries, not by looking impressive. What it costs depends on how many pages you need, whether it has to take bookings or sell online, and who is writing the words. We quote a fixed price after a short call, so you know the number before any work starts.
Below is what each kind of budget usually buys, the ongoing costs that catch people out, and the four things every small business site has to get right. If you would rather talk it through, call 0455 100 747.
Book A Free CallLooks matter less than these four. Get them right and the design has something to work with.
Customers often search on their phone, on the move. A page that stalls on a train or in a car park loses the enquiry before it starts.
The first screen should name the service and the area you cover, in plain words, without anyone needing to scroll.
A tap-to-call number, a short form and clear opening hours, visible on every page rather than buried at the bottom.
Clear service pages and a properly set up Google Business Profile do most of the work. Our local SEO for Melbourne businesses covers the rest.
We do not publish a price list, because two businesses asking for five pages can need very different things. These are the usual shapes of a small business build, from simplest to most involved.
One well-built page covering who you are, what you do, where you work and how to get in touch. Suits a brand-new business or a sole trader with a single service.
A handful of pages, typically home, services, about and contact. This is the most common small business build and the right starting point for most.
Adds online bookings, or a Shopify or WooCommerce store. There is more to design, connect and test, so it sits higher in scope.
Structured from day one so you can add service pages, location pages and a blog over time, which is how small businesses build search visibility year on year.
The build is a one-off. These are the costs that keep running after launch, and they are where most people feel caught out.
Domain renewal. Paid every year or two. Make sure the domain is registered in your business name, not your web designer’s.
Hosting and SSL. The server your site lives on and the certificate that keeps it secure. Ours is bundled against the build rather than billed as a surprise later.
Updates and security. A WordPress site needs its core and plugins kept current. Our guide to how often WordPress plugins should be updated explains why, and our WordPress care plans handle it for you.
Content changes. New staff, new prices and new photos. Find out before you sign whether these are included, charged per change or something you can do yourself.
Whoever builds your site, ask for every recurring cost in writing before you commit.
We are based at 616 Balcombe Rd, Black Rock, in Melbourne’s Bayside, and we build and support websites for small businesses right across the country. Distance makes little difference to a website project, because most of the work happens over the phone, by email and through shared drafts, whichever suburb or state you are in.
Need something more involved than a small business site? Our custom website design page explains when a fully custom build is worth it, and our web design and development service covers larger projects and online stores.
When the build is finished, the website belongs to you. It is not locked to a page builder, and you are free to host it anywhere.
Keep the domain, Google Analytics, Search Console and Google Business Profile in your own name. Add your web designer as a user rather than letting them own the login.
You can keep us on for hosting and care after launch, but that is a choice, not a condition of the build.
I worked with the team at next gen digital on a web design project, and after the website launched, we focused on improving our search rankings. They delivered a great looking website and backed it up with a solid SEO strategy.
We were getting very little traffic before working with this team. Six months later, our website is ranking for keywords we never thought we’d appear for. The increase in leads has been amazing!!
We engaged Next Gen Digital to assist with our SEO. The team was professional, responsive and easy to deal with. Their expertise and clear communication made the process straightforward, and we achieved great results.
The questions we get asked most often, answered straight.
It depends on the number of pages, whether you need bookings or an online store, and whether we are writing the content or you are supplying it. We do not publish a price list. After a short free call we give you a fixed price, so you know the full cost before any work starts.
A simple site moves quickly once the content is ready. The usual hold-up is copy, photos and sign-off rather than the build itself. Our guide to realistic website timelines breaks down each phase.
Yes, for any website: domain renewal, hosting with SSL, updates and security for a CMS such as WordPress, and any content changes. Our hosting and maintenance are bundled against the build. Whoever you choose, ask for every recurring cost in writing first.
A well-built site gives search engines a clean starting point, but it will not rank for competitive local searches on its own. If customers find businesses like yours on Google, pair the build with SEO for small businesses so the site is planned around the searches that matter.
Tell us where you are stuck. We will come back with a straight answer, a timeline and a fixed price. No jargon, no pressure.
